Club Meeting
Wednesday, September 1
Harry's Hofbrau
Redwood City
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE NEW MEMBERS
Howdy Folks,
Hope those of you that attended HAN had a great time………………….
We have decided on how to go about voting on the '04 and newer car issue. After
a lot of member input, we will be using a mail in ballot that is included in
this newsletter. Please follow the instructions on the ballot. Results will be
announced live (drum roll optional) at our OCTOBER meeting. This will give
everyone an opportunity to vote on this. Thanks to Jim Lent for designing the
ballot. Cut and dried, yes or no…that’s it. Upon reading the votes, majority
rules, the vote will be final. Handling it this way will keep our meetings
civil. Thanks to everyone for their input on how to handle this. We hope to
receive a vote from each and every member.
We will take some time at our September meeting coming up on Wednesday the 1st
at Harry’s in Redwood City to discuss…………you guessed it !!!!!! Good Guys 2005. I
believe as many of you do that this event is very important to our club. We need
to come up with an entire new crew of event coordinators to carry on what has
become a GGG tradition. Folks, if we don’t have some of you grab this bull by
the horns, we WILL NOT BE THEIR HOST CLUB NEXT YEAR. I know we can do it. Jim
Lent, John Phillips and myself will work with you. It IS a ton of work but the
rewards are there as you know 2005 will be our ninth year hosting this event.
Also at our next meeting, Al Harris will present his year to date Treasurers Report for us. Let’s also take some time and talk about what direction you want us to take in '05. Over the last couple of years, there has been a decline in the number of club events along with the number of members stepping up to host them. It would benefit all of us to address this issue now. Are some of us getting bored now that we have been together for a number of years and the honeymoon is over so to speak? Lets get the reasons on the table and discuss them. If we can identify what the cause is, we all know we can come up with a solution. Lets go for it……………….
September happenings include Cherry’s Jubilee and The Altamont Cruisers show, both talked up in this newsletter. As we return to meetings in September, try to attend them if you can. As always the September through January meetings set both the tone and determine our events for the following year. Be there…………… See Ya in the Fast Lane
John
Note From The Editor
The Golden Gate Goats email list had some spirited posts
in July and August regarding 04 GTOs. Although our President didn’t ask me to
include this in the newsletter, I thought it was important to see his views,
which I also share.
Hi Folks,
Prez John here. Just read all of the recent e mails going around. If members
want to voice their opinion via e mail, that is fine and good. We all have the
right to do that. All I ask is that it be kept civil.........
Our charter specifically says that our club is open to owners and enthusiats of
64 to 74 Pontiac A Body cars. The charter is actually incorrect as ‘73 and ‘74's
are not A body models as has been pointed out both in the recent e mails and in
the past. We need to correct the wording on that.
I have not taken a position on this subject to avoid adding fuel to the fire.
Kinda hard to keep out of it any longer. My view is that GGG should not allow
the late model GTO's to be club eligible. My reasons are
these...................
1) GTO and Jr. GTO production ran from ‘64 to ‘74. That is locked as a period in
time. The GTO legacy ended then, as did the entire Musclecar Era. GTO was the
original American Muscle Car. Our love of these cars is THE reason we started
GGG as Jim Lent has stated.
2) The GTO has not been continually in production as have the Mustang or
Corvette. There is no lineage between the classic models and the car now being
marketed as a GTO.
3) The new GTO is not an American Musclecar. It is an Austrailian built Holden
modified for the American market, being imported as a Pontiac. It's performance
alone qualifies it as a musclecar, however it is not an American car.
Thanks for listening.......................you now know how I will vote.

RECIPE CORNER
Hi All,
I lucked out and John did not pull up my potted tomatoes, but alas they are
starting to look pretty ugly now. Today I will pick all the tomatoes off, even
the green ones and toss the plants. My grandmother used to make a green tomato
pie. Thought maybe some of you adventurous bakers might like to try. It really
is good. Similar to apple, but a comfort food taste of its own. Nope, John still
will not eat, but I sure love it. He will eat the vanilla ice cream I serve with
it though. :*)
Enjoy,
Marsha
