PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hello Everyone,

Hope that this message finds all of you doing well. The unbelievable events that occurred on September 11th and the continuing repercussions have touched and or directly affected each of us in our own way.

The last club event was the cruise to The Pontiac Grill in Santa Cruz on Sept. 8th. I was not able to attend but was told that the turnout was good and that everyone had a great time. We were sad to learn that they will soon be closing their doors due to losing their lease. By the time you receive this, the Altamont Cruisers show would have already taken place on the 23rd and Cherry's will be upon us. I hope that those of you able to attend these events have a great time. Both my father and Marsha’s father just had major operations and we have been very busy with family matters.

Looking forward into October, our next club meeting is on Wed. the 3rd at Harry's in Redwood City. The Silver State Pontiac Show is on the 6th in Sparks Nevada. Once again, our Oct. 6th Dyno Day has been postponed for now. On Sunday the 14th, we are having a 5th year birthday celebration. See this newsletter for full details on this special event. As always, please help out your event chairs, Ray Ibia and Russ Louthian by following their directions. They have a fantastic time planned for all of us and this event took a LOT of work to put together. Please help them out by doing what they are asking of you if you are gonna attend! We are looking for a LARGE turn out !!!!!!!

The new GGG club visors are here and are pretty cool. Jim Lent will be bringing them to club events for all of you to see. All of our club merchandise will be at our 5th Anniversary celebration for those of you that would like to add to your wardrobes. Until then for shirts, please contact me by email. Thank you !!!

New on our website!!!!!!! Check out the Car Facts section for photos and specifications on many of our members cars. This came about as the result of an idea member Mike LaCombe had. Mike took the initiative to design the page and get this information from club members pretty much on his own to get started. With help from Jim Lent and Skip Hendricks, we now have a really neat way to learn about each others cars. These guys put a lot of effort into this project and it came out really well. They would love to hear your response to their efforts.....they did it for your enjoyment. I was absolutely stoked to see this come together. Right on !!!!!!

Lets talk about our upcoming meetings, all of which are going to be important. We encourage your participation!!!! At our October meeting, we will be voting for Vice President and Secretary and having nominations for Treasurer and President. Job duties for Treasurer and President will be at the meeting for you to see what will be expected of you. Lolly Mayeda and Barb Davis have accepted nominations for Secretary. We will vote by written ballot for Secretary. Russ Louthian has accepted a nomination for Vice President. If Russ runs unopposed, we will vote by a show of hands. If another candidate comes forward before the meeting, we will vote by written ballot. Will Valle and myself are placing ourselves for nomination as Treasurer and President for 2002. Any other interested parties are encouraged to nominate themselves for our positions. We will vote at our November meeting for Treasurer and President.

Historically, at our November meeting we begin the process of putting together next years event schedule by presenting ideas for events to the group and vote on them at our December meeting. This year, both our November and December meetings are on Saturdays and combined with events. November 3rd at Bosco’s Bones in Sunol after our Niles Canyon train ride and December 8th following Toys for Tots at a location TBA. It would be nice to maintain this schedule but I need to talk with both event chairs to verify that we have a suitable meeting environment. I also want to ask the membership if they are willing to participate after an event and lunch. This will make for a longer time commitment on everyone’s part. My estimate would be 90 to 120 minutes for both meetings, AFTER LUNCH. Last year we did choose events at our regularly scheduled November meeting. We were unable to vote on them at our December meeting after Toys for Tots at Peggy Sues due to noise, lack of time, etc. We had a special January meeting after bowling at Pacifica Bowl to put together our event schedule and that worked exceptionally well. Lets visit this subject at our upcoming October meeting. Until then,......

SEE YA IN THE FAST LANE !!!!!!!!!!!

CHERRY’S JUBILEE - SEPTEMBER 28-30

MONTEREY & LAGUNA SECA RACEWAY

This event has grown in popularity each year for GGGoaters. Last year over 20 members attended to enjoy the incomparable Monterey area. Everyone who attends says this is one of the best run events that they have ever attended. Friday begins with a poker run that goes through Cannery Row, the 17 mile drive and down Hiway One to Big Sur and back. Returnees can then join the lazy crowd in a show’n’shine at Cannery Row or in Pacific Grove this year. Friday night there is a controlled cruise. Sat. the show shifts to Laguna Seca, with a free ham & pancake breakfast, show’n’shine and parade laps around Laguna Seca Raceway. HOT laps in Porsches can also be purchased. Sat. night there is a dance at the Marriot Hotel at Fishermans’ Wharf. The

Joe Scharino Band provides pretty much non-stop music from the 60s-80s. Sunday, the Show continues or you can sleep in, get a leisurely breakfast and take the slow cruise home or hit the shops in Monterey or Carmel.

The event application can be viewed and downloaded from the Cherry’s website.

Go to: http://www.svmh.com/foundation/foundcalendar.htm and then select Cherry’s Jubilee to register online or have an application sent to you.

Or you can call 831-759-1836 to have them send you an application. If you are

thinking of going, you should be making hotel reservations now. If you ever thought about taking a Friday off to go play, then this is the one for you!

Once again, for those arriving on Thursday, we have been invited to a Thursday evening BBQ at Tom & Joanne Flynn's house in Monterey. Please let me know if you are going to this BBQ so I can advise Tom & Joanne of the number of people to expect.

Thanks,

Jim Lent - 510-799-6096 jimlent@home.com
