PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

WOW!!!!!!! Absolutely HUGE turnout at our last meeting in San Leandro. I was given a count of 52 strong. Members came from Healdsberg, Sonoma and Stockton to name the more distant places. Several new members came to their first meeting. Overall, a very positive evening. Support for trying a couple of Saturday meetings next year, perhaps as part of an event was strongly supported.

Our next meeting, Oct. 4th in Redwood City is our first planning meeting for next years event with Jim Wangers, May 5th, 2001. Please put on your thinking caps as we need to leave this meeting with a basic idea of what we want to do with this. This event will require a lot of member involvement to put together, so we need to define the event and have the people in place to make it a reality. We have a totally clean sheet of paper with this. One day event or two? GGG only or other clubs? Our financial obligation to Mr. Wangers is for airfare, ground transportation, lodging and food. This event is limited only by our creativity and level of involvement. Ask yourself, what do YOU want this event to be? What do YOU want Mr. Wangers to talk about? This is a step in a new direction for GGG. Plan to brainstorm on Oct. 4th!

Our charter with the GTOAA states that we will hold elections for board officers each January on an as required basis. I have said many times, this club is your club. If any of you would like to run for a board position or are thinking about it and have any questions you would like to ask before you decide please let me know. Thank you!

Our last event, the Sept. 9th cruise to the Pontiac Grill in Santa Cruz, chaired by Adam Peralta was a really fun time. We had about 15 cars on display in the restaurant’s parking lot. This location was a Pontiac dealership in the late 50’s. Weather went from warm in the South Bay to perfect in Santa Cruz to downright cold in Half Moon Bay!!!!! By the time you receive this newsletter, Cherries Jubilee and the Altamont Cruisers show will have been enjoyed by many of you. Horses to Horsepower was covered in our last newsletter. Anyone seeking info for the Oct. 1st POCI show should contact member Will Valle for additional details.

GGG events for October include our meeting on the 4th, anniversary picnic on Sunday the 8th and cruise to Casa de Fruta on the 28th. The picnic is one of our biggest events of the year. Event chairs Ray Ibia & Russ Louthian have a great time planned for us again this year. Full details in this newsletter. They have made some changes this year for your added enjoyment Sooooo Plleeaassee read the information and follow their instructions. It is critical that you RSVP with them to ensure that their plans come together! Thank you and see ya there! Info also in this newsletter for the Cruise to Casa, chaired by Jim Lent. That takes us through the month of October, come on out and join in the fun!

The next batch of assignments for Car of the Month articles are listed below. Please direct any questions to our newsletter editor, Jim Lent. Jim likes to have a few articles “on deck” to take advantage of any sales he can find on color copies which can result in major savings to our club. Thanks to all of you that have submitted articles in the past and to those of you that will be doing yours in the future. These articles are enjoyed by all of us. It is always interesting to hear about the story behind the car and the experiences of the owners.

That pretty much covers it for this month. Please keep the recipes coming for The Recipe Corner. With the holidays rapidly approaching, please send them in ASAP so they can be included in time for everyone to enjoy.

Hope to see ya in the fast lane soon!!!!

John

OMIGODITSGOOD! Recipe Corner

Hi Everyone. It has been pretty hot around here the last couple days. If the heat is sapping your energy and you need some get up and go, then you will want to try Barb Davis's fantastic recipe for beans. Thanks Barb! I have tried these and they are easy and delicious. Can also be done in the crock pot. If you are not ready for a blast of Tri-Power then try adding a teaspoon of powdered ginger.

Please send in those holiday recipes, to me at your earliest convenience. This way Jim has plenty of time to get them printed in a future newsletter for your holiday enjoyment.

Enjoy!

Marsha Mekisich
