CLUB MEETING
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4
NILES CANYON
Aloha,
Boy, you can sure tell that Fall is upon us. Used the furnace a couple of times this week. Our 5th Anniversary Luau was a fantastic time. 46 club cars and 125 folks came on out and enjoyed a perfect day at Vasona Park. Weather was fine, we had a great time, really fine dine...just ran out of rhyme!!!!!! Entertainment was good....the whole event just came off marvelously.
This was due to a really great team effort by Ray & Ellie Ibia, Russ Louthian, Wayne & Brenda Mayeda, Lolly Mayeda and Matt Matsukawa, Yosh Miyako and Paul Fujimori. I apologize if I omitted anyone. It takes a ton of planning to have an event come off this smoothly. Congrats all around, job well done.
Time again to ask for Car of the Month articles. For the month of
November - Mark & Deidre Stipanov, John & Fran Descalzo, Lolly Mayeda & Rich Hogbin.
December - Steve Beckett, Alan & Julie Blake, Paulette Hendrickson & GTO Joe Sims. Thanks in advance for completing your articles and forwarding them to Newsletter Editor Jim Lent in a timely manner. This will carry us into 2002.
Our next club meeting is coming up as part of our Sunday Nov. 4th Niles Canyon Railway ride. Please note that this is a date change. Wayne Barnes is hosting again for us this year. Full details in this newsletter. At the last meeting, there were no nominations for either Treasurer or President. Will Valle and myself have placed ourselves for nomination for 2002 in our present positions. If anyone wants to nominate themselves or someone else.....you still have time. Please let us know prior to the meeting so that we can prepare ballots and make plans for an election. If nobody else chooses to run, we will vote via a show of hands to ratify the status quo for another year.
At the last meeting, Russ Louthian was elected VP and Barb Davis was elected Secretary. Congratulations to both of them. For the first time in a long time, your board is back to five members. This will be our first event planning meeting for next years event calendar. We propose event ideas this month and vote on them next month. If you have any ideas, this is the time. As in the past, if you do suggest an event and it gets voted in next month, we hope that you will offer to chair it as well.
The following weekend is the final GGuys show of the year at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds on Nov 10th & 11th. Look for an email update as to a meeting location if you are planning to attend. Week and a half later and Thanksgiving is upon us. That pretty much will ease us into Dec. and our Sat the 8th Toys for Tots event & meeting. Look for lots more info. coming on this one. That is pretty much it for now. Enjoy the nice weather while we have it and see ya in the fast lane.............................................. Almost forgot, for some really interesting Pontiac Tech....check out: www.pontiacpower1.com You will need to come up with a user name and password to get in but it is really informative. Bruce Fulper of Rock & Roll Engineering has offered to volunteer his time in the Question & Answer area.

Do you want to have fun?
This is an open letter to all 240+ members (couples and individuals) of the Golden Gate Goats -Bay Area GTO car club. We have been members since December '99. Our ‘64 Convertible started being restored in Feb. 2000. We went to our first GGG function March of 2000 at Pyramid Brewery in Berkeley. Even though we did not have our car and we had not really met anyone from the club we were welcomed enthusiastically. We did not go to any club monthly meetings but were kept informed of everything through our monthly newsletter "The Goat Connection". Our car was ready the day before the Good Guys Summer Get Together in Pleasanton -with GGG the HOST CLUB- in June 2000. That was my goal, to be part of a very large group of GTO's, parking in the very middle of Good Guys showing off our cars, and getting to know every one in GGG. For one hour of work on Sat and Sun we got a free Event T-shirt with our GGG logo, two days of parking with entry into the event and BBQ lunch. I knew the club had some really nice people in it, but until then I didn't realize
that this club had the best, most friendliest and FUN people in it.From that day on we have tried to go to all the club events and other events that club members go to. Cinco De Wangers in San Jose; Hot August Nights in Reno; Cherry's Jubilee in Monterey/Laguna Seca; Pontiac Grill Santa Cruz; Tilden Park, Berkeley; Bay Meadows in field parking watching the races; Silver State Pontiac show in Sparks, Nevada. to name just a few. Some get-togethers have 20 cars, some only 5 or 6 (I think our average is between 15 to 30 cars, with about 50-60 for the June Good Guys show.) Even when we only have 5 or 6 car at an event, we try to show up together, park together and show other clubs that we have FUN.
I have been really thinking about what a good group of people this is and why with so many members (240+ plus Significant others!!!!) we don't have more people show up. Usually it is the same 20 to 30 people, which is fine because we have such a great time together, but I feel sorry for all of you who are missing out. I know for some of you it is kinda far to drive (I include Mark & I in that) but it is always worth it! For example, Cherry's Jubilee in Monterey and Laguna Seca is probably the best event of the year. (better than Hot August Nights) This year Mark and I went a couple extra days. We had five clear, sunny, warm days. No fog was seen, the evenings were balmy. With 1200 cars cruising Cannery Row and Pacific Grove, driving to Big Sur for the Poker Run and the Funnest group of people you could ask for. A lot of us stayed at the same place so we could make sure we kept abreast of all the groups doings. And thanks to Jim Lent - the guy that keeps us all on track (if we want to be) It was a great getaway.
Mark and I have never been much on clubs and groups, But if you had to be in one, this is it! They don't demand you show up; they aren't cliquey; If you aren't sure you are coming to a get together and can't RSVP they don't have a cow if you do show up ( in fact you are welcomed with open arms.) It is always nice if you can RSVP but sometimes you need to be able to do things spur of the moment. We have never gone to a club meeting since it is about 1 &1/2 hours for us to get there but one of these days we are really going to try. (We have never gotten yelled at for not going.)
I mostly wrote this letter as a thank you to all of you GGG members who have made being in a club so much fun. (Has everyone gotten tired of the word “fun"? If you are, you need to come to an event with us to see what it is like!!!) I hope maybe some of you who have never showed up will come (You don't even need your GTO - in fact lots of the folks are working on their cars off and on and can't drive them. The car is not essential - when it is ready bring it- but what we would like is to get to know the faces that go with the names on our roster.

RECIPE CORNER
Hi Everyone,
This month we have a yummy guilt free brownie recipe from Barbara Davis. Below is her note as well. Thank you Barbara!
Marsha
Here is a Weight Watcher Brownie recipe. There are a few of us that are on Weight Watchers. I thought it might be nice to include a recipe in our newsletter. I made these and took them to the barbecue at the Flynn's house last weekend, 'Cherries Jubilee'. Nobody knew that they were Weight Watcher Brownies. Here you go:
Servings = 24
estimated POINTS per serving = 3
Ingredients:
pkg. reduced calorie brownie mix (20-1/2 oz.) such as Betty
Crocker or other favorite mix that is reduced calorie.
1 Pkg. of Philadelphia Free Fat, Cream Cheese, softened
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup Baker's Semisweet Real Chocolate Chips
Instructions:
Preparation, prepare brownie mix as directed on package. Pour into 13x9 inch baking pan sprayed with no stick cooking spray. Beat cream cheese with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Add sugar, mixing until blended. Add egg and vanilla: mix just until blended. Pour cream cheese mixture over brownie mixture: cut through batter with knife several times for marble effect. Sprinkle with chocolate chips.
Bake at
350 for 35 to 40 min. or until cream cheese mixture is lightly browned.Cool & cut into squares.
