PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Who'll stop the rain? I just spent 2 weeks in Kenosha, Wisconsin and the weather there was actually drier than here! Whole lot colder there too though.

Feb. 24ths Day At Hornet drew quite a crowd. Event chair Ray Ibia counted about 40 GGG members in attendance on what was a very rainy day. Lots of fun and educational as well. Lots of new faces came out but on a ship that big, it was kinda hard to keep track of everyone. Great job Ray on hosting this event!

Our next event is Saturday March 3rd, Dyno Day ! Many of you will probably not read this until the event has taken place. Wednesday, March 7th is our next meeting at Harry's Hofbrau in Redwood City. Lot's of fun stuff coming at you in the near future and for the entire year. March 24 & 25 is GGuys in Pleasanton for their first show of the year. April 4th is our first East Bay meeting of the year at Harry's in San Leandro. April 14th, is GGG day at Filoli. Look for more info in next newsletter on Filoli and April 29th at Benicia.

Please note the flyer in this newsletter for our May 5th event with Jim Wangers. Event chair Russ Louthian has a fantastic time planned for us! Full details in the text of the flyer. I have predicted that this will be our biggest event to date yet. The theatre that the presentation will be held in holds 200 and the parking lot can hold 100 GTO's. LETS FILL IT TO CAPACITY !!!!!!!! This is going to be a fantastic event. We kept the cost extremely affordable too. Killer location, killer venue for Mr. Wangers presentation! Peggy Sues 50's style diner, lots of space for our cars, WOW, it's gonna be totally KOOL! Mark your calendars now for this one.

We are creeping up on 80% renewals, 200 members approx. Thanks a lot, great job everyone. We are ready to rock for 2001. We have the events, we have club merchandise, we have the cars, but most importantly, we have you the members. Without your participation, the rest doesn't matter. What does matter is you. Each and every one of you! Your club schedule this year offers a little bit of everything. Those of you that have not yet attended a GGG event, you owe it to yourself to join in the experience. You will soon understand what keeps the rest of us coming back for more, and more and still more! Bye for

now.....and;

CRUISE ‘EM IF YA HAVE ‘EM !!!!!!!!

JOHN

GOLDEN GATE GOATS UPCOMING EVENTS

Benicia Classic Car Show - Sunday, April 29, 2001.

This has proven to be a popular show for East Bay GGGoaters the last two years. We have won the participation award each year. This year we are again invited to Larry & Mary Holt’s house after the show to enjoy some of Mary’s super gourmet treats. Those of you who enjoy good eating should not miss this opportunity. Note that $15.00 admission is only available in March!

See flyer this issue.

Central Pontiacs of California Car Show - May 11/12 - Madera

Several club members have attended this show over the past three years. The hospitality is outstanding, from a free BBQ dinner at a local Pontiac Dealership on Friday evening, to the laid back car show at the Madera Fairgrounds with plenty of shaded parking. should not miss this opportunity. Note that $15.00 admission is only available in March!

See flyer this issue.

Vintage Car Races  - Sears Point Raceway  - May 19, 2001

It’s not too early to start planning for our May 19th club event. It will be at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma. http://www.searspoint.com/ We will have special car coral parking for GG Goats only. We get a discount price for race tickets, only $15.00 (regularly $20.00). If you’ve been to these races

before you know that it is very exciting, very diverse racing. You will see everything from ‘20’s vintage race cars to ‘80’s Formula One cars. The track is undergoing a $35 million modernization to the accommodations will be outstanding. There will also be a food and wine pavilion for your dining and drinking pleasure. We will arrive at the track around 10:00 a.m. and can leave anytime after 3:00 p.m. We will be organizing Bay Area meeting locations so we can convoy up to Sears Point. Approximately 30 vintage race cars will leave the track around 4:00 p.m. and convoy over to Sonoma where they will parade around the square. There is also a food and wine event that evening in downtown Sonoma. We went last year and it’s some of the best food and wine around. For those that are interested, I’m working with Sears Point Raceway to tag onto the convoy of vintage racers and parade around the square in Sonoma.

If you are interested in the food and wine tasting in Sonoma Saturday evening, call Sears Point Raceway for tickets to that event. If you want to stay overnight in Sonoma, there are several motels and many Bed and Breakfast Inns. We will be staying at the El Pueblo Inn, 896 W. Napa Street, Sonoma, phone 800/900-8844. Its parking lot seems very GTO friendly. You must make your reservations early, as rooms fill up early. Call me for other suggestions of places to stay.

VERY IMPORTANT!! We must purchase 20 tickets to have our own car coral and get the discount. That shouldn’t be too hard, only 10 cars with 2 people each equals 20 tickets. VERY, VERY IMPORTANT!!!! You must get your money for the race tickets to me no later than April 30! Make you checks payable to Skip Hendricks and mail to: 3384 Bridle Drive, Hayward CA, 94541 or give it to me at a club event or meeting. This is not my idea, Sears Point requires that we do it this way.

This is not an event that you can wait until the last minute to decide to participate in!

OMIGODITSGOOD! Recipe Corner

OMYGODITSGOOD!

Hi Everyone,

Here is a simple and hearty recipe for soup, I am going to try tonight. It has been so cold and rainy. Time for comfort food! This recipe is from Mary Holt. Should make about 6 servings. Mary suggests to serve this with a small sprig of rosemary if you have it, and some grated freshly parmesan cheese.

Thanks Mary.

I still have more great recipes from the club. Each month I try to select one or two I think you will enjoy according to the season. Anyone want to share some of their own, please either give them to John or I when you next see us, or e-mail to mitygto@aol.com to my attention. I look forward to hearing from you. Add a note about the recipe too if you like and I will include.

Marsha

Wild Rice Soup

1 cup Wild Rice
1 32 oz can chicken broth
1 large onion minced
4 tablespoons butter
1 cup finely chopped celery
1 cup finely chopped carrots
1 half cup minced ham
1 cup cream
1 quarter cup dry sherry
minced parsley
salt to taste

Rinse rice under running water, drain. Place wild rice in heavy saucepan with salt and chicken broth. Bring to boil and simmer for 1 hour or until rice is open and tender but not mushy.  In skillet saute onion till clear, add celery and carrots and ham. Cook till slightly soft, add to rice. Just before serving add cream and sherry.
