PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Happy Holidays to one & all! Santa will have come and gone as many of you read this. Another new year will soon be upon us. This means that it is time for dues renewal. Please send yours to the GGG Treasurer at your earliest convenience. Thank you very much for your attention to this matter. We have decided to maintain dues at their current level for 2001. We will review our year 2000 finances at our February meeting.

On Dec. 9th, we had our Toys for Tots Toy Drive and meeting in San Jose. Absolutely fantastic time! Russ Louthian & Ray Ibia did a superb job as our event coordinators! Thank You Thank You Thank You !!!!!!!!!! to all of you that came out and participated. Your donations of cash and toys were greatly appreciated. A lot of needy kids will have had a much happier Christmas because of your generosity. On a cloudy day, with an 80% chance of rain, we had 31 GTOs and a few daily drivers attend. The meeting that followed at Peggy Sue’s packed the entire restaurant with approximately 75 people in attendance. This was the first event for many new members and we saw a lot of other members for the first time in awhile. This is as good as it gets from a participation standpoint. Look for us to return again next year.

The focus of the meeting was putting together the event calendar for 2001 that you will see in this newsletter. Looks like another fun year for GGG. I was very pleased with the outcome of the meeting. You will notice that we have combined some meetings with events taking place on the weekend. Many of you asked for this and here it is! Thank you to everyone that participated. Due to time limitations, we were unable to do any planning for our May 5th, 2001 event with Jim Wangers. We have planned a special meeting along with our Jan. 27th event at the Pacifica Bowl for this purpose. Please plan to be there!

In looking at upcoming club business, we need to have a plan of attack for the Jim Wangers event at the conclusion of our January meeting. I want to be sure that everyone is aware of this. Let us all make the commitment to see that this happens on the 27th. At our Feb. 8th meeting, lets plan to review our year 2000 finances and discuss our hosting the 2002 GTOAA Western Regional. We need to decide if hosting this show is the direction that GGG wants to go. We can discuss the mechanics of it forever. It is a huge undertaking. If enough of us have the VISION that this is where GGG should go and are ready to make the COMMITMENT, take OWNERSHIP AND BE ACTIVELY INVOLVED, I say bring it on!!!!!!! Without question, we CAN do this. My goal here in presenting it to you in this manner is to get all of you to really give it some thought. We will need several people to work as committee heads and a show chairperson. GGG is your club. Hosting this show is your decision. DEADLINE FEB. 8th! Yea or nay ----- all of you decide the way.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND SEE YA IN THE FAST LANE!!!!!!!!!!

OMIGODITSGOOD! Recipe Corner

Happy New Year 2001! This month we have a couple recipes from Lolly Mayeda. Thanks Lolly! If these turn out any where near as good as Lolly's cookies they should be terrific.

Chicken Tortilla Bake (serves six to eight)

Three cups shredded cooked chicken (or turkey)
Two (Four oz) cans chopped green chilies
One cup chicken broth
One (Ten and three quarter oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
One (Ten and three quarter oz) can condensed cream of chicken soup, undiluted
One small onion finely chopped
Twelve corn tortillas
Two cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided

In a bowl, combine the chicken, chilies, broth, soups and onion. Set aside. Warm tortillas in the microwave according to package directions. Layer half of the tortillas on the bottom of a greased thirteen by nine by two inch baking pan, cutting to fit pan if desired. Top with half of the chicken mixture and half of the cheese. Repeat creating additional layers of tortilla, chicken mixture then cheese. Bake uncovered at three hundred fifty degree oven for thirty minutes.

Chili Pasta Pleaser (serves four)

Three quarter cup medium pasta shells, uncooked
One (fifteen oz) can Hormel chili
Four cups shredded romaine lettuce
One cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
One red bell pepper thinly sliced
One avocado, peeled, seeded and thinly sliced
One quarter cup sliced green onion
One quarter cup plus two tbsp French or Catalina salad dressing

Cook pasta shells according to package directions. Drain. In saucepan, combine chili and shells. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently until thoroughly heated. To serve, place lettuce in serving bowl. Top with chili mixture, cheese, bell pepper, avocado, green onions and salad dressing. Enjoy!
