PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hello everyone. It will be after Thanksgiving when you read this and I hope that a nice holiday weekend was had by all. The weather was absolutely beautiful for our last 2 events. Those of us that participated had a really fun time. GGG club member Jack Fabrique’s ‘68 conv. will be on the cover of an upcoming GGuys Gazette magazine and club member Alan Blake won a GGuys pick with his ‘70 hardtop at their recent show. Niles Canyon train ride was a lot of fun and the food at Bosco’s Bones was really good. I am sure that Marsha and I will go there again. Thanks to Wayne Barnes for putting the event together.

Our next event is on Saturday Dec. 9th. Full details are included in this issue and many emails have been sent out to the group. Event chair Russ Louthian has covered all the bases here. Please join your fellow members in supporting Toys for Tots. WE ARE THE ONLY CAR CLUB EVER INVITED TO PARTICIPATE. A huge turnout is in order! The meeting that follows is the most important one of the year. We will choose our events for 2001 and discuss our May 5th, 2001 event with Jim Wangers. It is very important that we have a location for Wangers to be held at very soon. I realize there are some challenges in making this happen and I appreciate everyone’s time in researching possible locations. Please plan on joining us. This is the FIRST time that our meeting has been on a Saturday. We have 3 hours set aside for lunch and the meeting. This sounds like a lot of time. We have many many things to discuss and I ask that everyone focus... on the topics as we are discussing them. Our agenda will easily fill the time. Thank you.

Our dues for next year will again be $30 for renewal. An envelope is in this newsletter with the amount you owe on the inside flap, addressed to GGG Treasurer Will Valle. Your prompt remittance is greatly appreciated. Beginning next year we will have Treasurers’ Reports quarterly. This will keep everyone more in tune with our club finances. We will discuss our 2000 finances at our Feb. 2001 meeting.

Many of you have asked for T shirts and other club stuff to be brought to meetings. As an alternative, and to give those members that are unable to come to meetings, a chance to order; we have put an order form in the newsletter. We have adequate inventory so now is a GRRRR8 time to order for yourself, significant other, kids, etc. We have increased our inventory on small and medium T’s per your request. Small to 2X in White, Black, Grey or Red. You want em, we got em!!!!!

For meetings next year, we will be putting the topics of discussion on the meeting calendar on the website and in the newsletters. This way everyone can know what is coming and be better prepared. We are learning as we go and make changes to help us do a better job. I have put together a proposed meeting schedule that I will share with you on Dec. 9th. Eight meetings total. Five Wednesday nights at Harry's (two in San Leandro and three in Redwood City.) Three on Saturdays including our important planning meetings in Nov. & Dec. These will be combined with events if possible and locations are to be determined. We will be discussing things earlier in the year than in the past.

As an example, our September meeting topic is “New board members for 2002?” GGG was put together back in 1996 and your current board would have served for five years at the end of 2001. We ask each year if any member is interested in a board position and we would have the required elections. That has not yet happened. I cannot speak for Jim, Will or Tom as to their future participation on the board but we would welcome anyone to run for any of our positions for calendar year 2002. Our goals with GGG have been met during our time in office. If we continue to want to participate, elections will be held. If we wish to step down, the membership would need only to accept the new person by majority vote. We will serve until other people wish to replace us. This gives you all a full year to think about this. Yes, this includes my position as well. Thank you!

That about covers it.

See you all at the TOYS FOR TOTS MEETING on Dec. 9th!!!!!!!!!!

JOHN

PLANNING FOR GGGOATS CAR SHOW ON MAY 5, 2001.

Planning for this show continues. We need your help in trying to find a suitable location that can park 100 or more cars, as well as have an inside area for a slide presentation by our special guest, Jim Wangers. If any of you are Elks, Moose, etc., can you please check to see if your location might be available (at a reasonable rate) for that day. We need to try to get the location finalized at our December meeting. Contact any board member with details or questions.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!

GOLDEN GATE GOATS UPCOMING EVENTS

Golden Gate Goats First Annual Toys for Tots Drive

Saturday Morning / December 9, 2000 10 AM to 11 AM

Here’s the kind of holiday event you’ve been looking for - a simple, rewarding event that takes little time and even less effort and is guaranteed to make you feel good!

Holiday Bonus - December Club Meeting & Lunch at Peggy Sue’s, 29 N San Pedro St. at W. Santa Clara, Downtown San Jose - From 11 AM to 2 PM

That’s right, as soon as we finish the Toys for Tots event, we will be having lunch and holding our December club meeting at a nearby restaurant known for its great 50s Dinner style food. Plus they are providing FREE PARKING in the paved lot right next door so we can display our cars!

Why Toys for Tots Invited Us -

We have been invited by Marine 1st Sgt Joe Vielma, 1st BTO Co, 4th LSB, Director of the Santa Clara County Toys for Tots, to take part in their Super Saturday event. This event gets a good deal of local media coverage and is an important publicity generator for the Toys for Tots. Sgt. Vielma feels our "true American classic cars" (his exact words) will provide the kind of image television and newspaper reporters want, and will thereby increase the visibility of the Toys for Tots drive. We are the ONLY CAR CLUB ever invited to participate, so let’s show them we care with a big, BIG turn out! Remember it’s good PR for our club too!

What We Need to Do -

This event takes place right in the middle of the Holiday Season, so we have done all we can to make it simple, easy and fun.

1. Bring your family and friends in your car along with one new toy to donate per car occupant. If you’re alone, no problem, just bring one new toy and you are in the event. If you have five in the car, each person must have one new toy to donate. Yes, you can bring more that one toy per person if you wish - - more better as Ray says.

2. Toys must be new (not something you took from your cousin). DO NOT WRAP the toys; just leave them in their box/container.

3. If you hate to shop, you can donate cash in the form of a check made payable to Toys for Tots.

That’s it. No need to RSVP, you can make up your mind at the last minute to join us. We want as many member cars as possible to take part. But, if your car just can’t make it, don’t let that stop you. Bring your toy to donate (or your check) and meet us at the restaurant. Then hitch a ride with one of the club members to the donation stand and you too can get the great feeling that comes from taking part in a good cause and knowing you did your part to help.

Meeting Time - We will meet at the parking lot next door to Peggy Sue’s restaurant in downtown San Jose at 10 AM. We will then depart as a group for the ceremony promptly at 10:20 AM (see map & directions). The round trip from the restaurant to the ceremony stand and back is a short 2-mile loop, sort of a mini-parade. So feel free to decorate your car in the Holiday Spirit!

Event Schedule

10 AM - 10:20 AM - Meet at parking lot next door Peggy Sue’s Restaurant

- Prepare donations / Decorate cars (optional) for drive to ceremony

10:20 AM - 10:45 AM - Drive to ceremony in downtown San Jose - Donate toys / checks to Marines at the ceremony stand - Return to restaurant parking lot

10:45 AM - 11 AM - Park and prepare cars for public display in lot

11 AM - 2 PM - Lunch at Peggy Sue’s and December Club meeting

CONTACT RUSS LOUTHIAN IF YOU NEED MORE DIRECTIONS TO THE EVENT. HE WILL BE HAPPY TO TELL YOU WHERE TO GO AND HOW TO GET THERE!

OMIGODITSGOOD! Recipe Corner

Hi Everyone, Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Now the Christmas Season is upon us. Yeah! Let the feasts begin. Found a few recipes shared by Mary Holt that I thought might come in handy this time of year. Thanks again Mary.

Important Note: Last month I included a pumpkin cheese cake recipe. Please

adjust the sugar amount from One Quarter to instead One and One Quarter cups

of sugar.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

GINGER BREAD COOKIES

A rather firm cookie. Good for decorating and putting on the tree, mantle or gingerbread house.

Ingrediants:

Six cups all purpose flour sifted                   Four teaspoons cinnamon

One teaspoon baking soda                         One and one half teaspoons ground cloves

One half teaspoon baking powder              One teaspoon finely ground pepper

One half pound unsalted butter                    One and one half teaspoons salt

One cup brown sugar                                   Two eggs

Four teaspoons ginger                                 One cup molasses

Sift together, flour baking soda, baking powder. Set aside. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Mix in spices and salt then eggs and molasses. Add flour mixture. Mix well. Divide Dough into thirds. Wrap in plastic and chill till firm. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Roll and cut dough into desired shapes. Bake 8 to 10 minutes until crisp, but not darkened.

Best Year Fried Walnuts

These store very well for several months in an airtight container. Great for salads, gift giving or just eating!

Ingrediants:

Four cups Walnut Halves                     One bottle canola oil

One half cup sugar                                Salt

Bring a large pot of water to full boil. Place all walnuts in water and boil for 1 minute. Pour walnuts into colander and rinse with hot water. Drain well. Place in bowl and stir in sugar. Heat oil in heavy skillet. Using a slotted spoon fry the walnuts in batches. Usually two to three batches depending on size of skillet. Nuts should not be crowded while frying. When lightly brown, remove from oil with slotted spoon and drain well. Lightly salt and let cool completely.
